Participating in the Summer Traineeship Scheme can be a great way for students to gain practical experience, enhance their skills, and explore potential career paths. The Summer Traineeship Scheme is targeted to students reading for EQF levels 6 & 7 (excluding ICT or IT related areas of study) at the Malta College for Arts Science and Technology (MCAST), the University of Malta (UoM) or any other tertiary education institution in Malta.

Students who are selected for a Summer Traineeship under this Scheme are posted in a Ministry or Entity in the Public Administration of Malta and assigned work relevant to their area of studies. 

During Summer 2024, the Summer Traineeship Scheme will open its doors for students coming from a variety of areas of studies:
- Summer Traineeship Scheme – General Positions - students reading for courses related to Accounts, Finance, HR, International Relations, Research, Economics, Policy, EU Affairs, Management and others.
- Summer Traineeship Scheme – Foundation for Educational Services – students reading for courses related to Education, Social Well-Being, Theatre Studies, Languages, early childhood years and others.
- Summer Traineeship Scheme – National Literacy Agency – students reading for courses related to Education, Social Well-Being, Theatre Studies, Languages, early childhood years and others.
- Summer Traineeship Scheme – Health – students reading for courses related to the Health Sector who will be employed within the Ministry for Health.

In additional, interested students who would like to continue work even during the scholastic year, can then eventually apply for the Traineeship Scheme during Fresher’s Week.

Students can also apply online through their respective Educational Institutions:

-UoM: Students can apply by sending their CVs & Acceptance Letter to the IPS through UM's placement website​. Furthermore, students wishing to have their placement recognised on their academic transcript ​are to apply through the Degree Plus Programme after they successfully complete their placement. 
-MCAST: Calls have been distributed amongst students through Classter System. Students are to submit their CV & Letter of acceptance on [email protected] .​
- Others Higher Education Institutions: can forward their CV & Letter of acceptance on [email protected]  and are guided by the Institute for the Public Services accordingly.
