Continuous professional development (CPD) through sponsorships for undergraduate and post-graduate courses offered exclusively by the Institute for the Public Services (IPS) is vital in fostering a skilled, knowledgeable, and adaptable workforce. Such sponsorships play a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of public officers and ultimately contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Malta Public Administration.

The fact that our organisational structure is built on a collaboration with Malta’s main national academic institutions allows us not only to provide opportunities for the further academic development of public officers but also gives us the flexibility to customise a number of these courses to the specific needs of the Malta Public Administration.

Such sponsorships are essential in today’s developing economy to equip our human resources with the right skill sets and skill enhancement, improve job performance and career advancement to our esteemed employees, think out of the box attitude, multidisciplinary collaboration, retain talent, and increase ethical and transparent practices.

Sponsorships are generally advertised through official Public Service circulars and/or the Public Service social media platforms where one can find instructions on how to apply for sponsorships.

Sponsorships may include paid study leave, part-payment of course fees, or both, depending on the course. Before the commencement of their studies, selected officers would be required to enter into a binding commitment to serve the Government for a specific period as defined by the Study Leave and Sponsorship Manual (Appendix III) after the completion of their studies. On successful completion of their studies, applicants may be required to carry out duties and training as per the exigencies of the Public Service in line with their new qualifications.

In conclusion, continuous professional development through sponsorships for undergraduate and post-graduate courses is a strategic investment by the IPS. By empowering public officers with up-to-date knowledge, advanced skills, and opportunities for career growth, the IPS can effectively address challenges, drive innovation, and maintain a high level of public service excellence.
